Today we visited another favourite port of Madeira. When I was here last year with Rumrunner1 we did a few caches here and had a couple of DNF’s. I would return to do some newly placed caches and try sort out last year’s DNF’s.
We all headed off the ship and did a Travel Bug Hotel. While Sue and Malcom were not sure it was located where the GPS had us because it just didn’t make sense I got on all fours and had it in hand, okay one shouldn’t glue metal to a cement wall that holds the cache box.
From here it was off to a cache called R.A.M. (Regional da Região Autonoma da Madeira) that I DNF on last year. Upon arrival I began the search and within a few seconds Sue yells I have it. What the heck we looked there last year I said. THis one is now off my DNF list.
Upon arrival home I have found out that the cache has been placed back in it’s original location by the owner so who knows now.
It was then off to a new cache called Funchal City that had muggles sitting at the location of the cache. We waited for some time and the cache was soon in hand.
Here is a square next to the cache location with a fountain.
After this cache we headed to another cache called Socorro that was a DNF last year. The problem with this cache was the coordinates last year were out and were again this year out. The location of the cache was in a tree. We checked all the tree’s on the side of the street the coordinates had us at and no deal. I was determined to find this one and not leave it as a DNF. I was off to across the street and the church and check the trees there. It was not long before I had the cache some 60m away from ground zero (GZ).
Walking to the cache. Cars do not slow down for you on the road.
After this cache we grabbed one more and then back to the ship. It was a great day and low and behold we managed to walk almost 7 km today.
