Okay here it is. It was two years ago that sweet-marie was diagnosed with Lung Cancer. Rumrunner 1 and I whisked her off to Barstow weeks after she was diagnosed. We only manged to get to 449 on Route 66 for 476 caches for the day. When we finished the day we made a pledge that the 3 of us would come back and finish off this highway at a later date.<\/p>\n

This was now 22 months later and sweet-marie is in\u00a0 remission and we are back with one added person. While Wifey had completed the highway some time back there has been many more caches placed.<\/p>\n

We started off with RT 66 Toll Booth<\/a> cache where we exchanged a few Travel Bugs.<\/p>\n

It was then off to do the Earhcache Amboy Crater<\/a>. This was a cache that all of us could do. This cache took some time to do as we needed to gather some information. Now this site is a Rest area that offers one of the few bathrooms along Route 66.
\nIf I may suggest make sure you take toilet paper with you because I have never run into one in\u00a0 recent times that gets restocked very often.<\/p>\n

Next off was to Amboy itself. We needed to stop off to get Message in a Bottle outside the restaurant and beside the Historic Roy’s Hotel and Restaurant sign.<\/p>\n

At the time of this posting Gas is being sold here but it is $4.99 a gallon.<\/p>\n

from here we did one Route 66 cache before a side trip to Amboy Burial grounds. I have to say there is no names any where or no information on who has been laid to rest here.<\/p>\n

From here we did a couple more caches before getting to a cache called Kick up your Feet<\/a>. This cache was a shoe tree that had hundreds of pairs of shoes on the tree. This tree collapsed back in 2010.
\nA new tradition has been started across the street with a new shoe tree.<\/p>\n

From here we continued to 503 Route 66 and then headed off a side road to do Bristol Dry Lake overlook<\/a>. After doing this cache we decided to stop and have lunch.<\/p>\n

from here we continued along to the 562 Route 66 and the next cache which Wifey missed on her first trip.
\nI took several photos here while two of our team went and signed the cache.<\/p>\n

From we continued on to 590 then a side trip to Classic Truck…. Yea some classic…..<\/p>\n

Okay from here we continued onto 645 where we hung a right to The House at Danby<\/a>. It would appear not many do this cache.
\nNow this is where things took a bad turn. I was driving back out to Route 66 on the gravel road and Rumrunner1 was in the right seat. He yells out there is a tarantula on the road in the tracks you are driving in. I turned to him and said what are you saying, well at that point there was nothing to worry about.
\nSomeone from the back seat pipes up and says you know the old saying if you kill a spider it rains you ever wonder what happens when you run over a tarantula?
\nIt turns out that should have never even been thought of.
\nAs we head down the road the weather to the east is getting bad. It is starting to rain where we are and we sell lots of Thunder and Lightening. Great we thought….
\nWell as we drove the shoulder Rumrunner1 noticed that there was another tarantula on the road, this time I avoided it and we stopped to take a look.<\/p>\n

What was interesting we came across many more walking along the shoulder. It has to be said that Rumrunner1 likes to play with the critters we come across, this was no exception. He has to learn leave well enough alone!<\/p>\n

We came across a cache in Essex called Oh Well. It is amazing who’s names you come across and don’t come across. Funny thing how we only found a pair of cachers who we saw only signed 4 logs along the way.
\nThis was one of them, it was what we found in the log that gave us a good laugh.<\/p>\n

It was not long before we gave up for the night at Vintage 1953 just beyond 741 Route 66.<\/p>\n

The drive back to Laughlin was over an hour and the weather was interesting.<\/p>\n

Tomorrow would tell on where we would cache.<\/p>\n

Tonight we ate at Outback in Laughlin.<\/p>\n
